I've been in the automotive film industry for 20 years & have bought many strip off wheels over the years. I was always pleased with their ability to remove old Florida sun exposed films safely off of delicate painted surfaces. This new down grade in materials , that make up part # 07498 is disappointing, not only to me but my client as well! For three days now I have been stripping off 3m vinyl & wrap materials that have outlasted their life span. The film is on a race instructors semi tractor trailer, I left the most expired film for last, where I knew I could count on the eraser wheel. I bought 2 strippers from Fellers in Hollywood, Fl & had one half left over from an old removal job that I did. When receiving my 2 new wheels I noticed right away the softer rubber, the inconsistency's in the product, and the Made in Mexico stamp!? I ask the the gentleman at counter if this is the same product as my old one & he says "oh yes, it just looks different 'cause that one is old & these are new! Look the part # is the same." And unfortunately that was the only thing that was the same!
As I am setting up for the final day of this long & arduous job, reading instructions, and setting up the drill, I notice the threads in the new eraser are plastic not metal like the old one....hummmm..... .? 12ft by 14 inches of cracked old red vinyl is all I have left....and the first 2 feet of film eat right through almost the first half of new wheel..... Then the drill spins & wheel doesn't move... 2000 rpm's , plastic threads on wheel, metal threads on mandrel, "you do the math..." Yep, Stripped threads! I Lowered RPMs & lightened pressure on second wheel & still had the same problem, mandrel threads melt plastic in wheel threads " Job does't get done... No $$$$$ ....I guess 3M really does stand for Making More Money, problem is they are the only ones making the money.... In this case $58 to be exact for two 4in erasers that don't work and didn't even have the mounting hardware.... The last half of the old eraser got more done then two new ones. I'm still trying to stand up straight! Please go back to your old standard of quality with this product. #07498
